Super Sand Eagles Crash Out of 2017 Beach Soccer World Cup
Nigeria’s Super Sand Eagles crashed out of the 2017 FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup in the Bahamas late on Monday night losing 2-1 to Iran on penalties after full time ended 4-4.
Dami Paul saved Hassan Abdollahi’s opening spot kick but Victor Tale and Suleiman Ogodo both missed their spot kicks as Nigeria failed to advance to the quarter-finals of the competition.
Goals from Bartholomew Ibenegbu, Victor Tale, Emmanuel Ohwoferia and Godspower Igudia for Nigeria cancelled out a brace from Mohammad Ahmadzadeh and two overhead kicks from Mohammad Mokhtari before the match went into penalties.
Ahmadzadeh opened scoring for the Iranians in the third minute but Tale restored parity for the Super Sand Eagles at the start of the second period from the spot after a player from Iran side illegally handled the ball.
Mohammad Mokhtari made it 2-1 two minutes after Tale had scored. Abu Azeez missed a sitter to make it 2-2 after his shot was saved by Hamid Behzadpour.
The former Enyimba midfielder however made up for his miss by providing an assist for Emmanuel Ohwoferia to level scores for the second time in the encounter.
