Oyo Higher Institutions May Begin Indefinite Strike Tomorrow

The Joint Action Committee of All Tertiary Institutions in Oyo State has decried the irregular payment of salaries by their respective owners.
This they also threatened will result in an indefinite strike action starting from if the situation persists.
Leaders of the group, Comrade Segun Oyewumi, from Emmanuel Alayande College of Education, Mr Gbenga Akinola from the Polytechnic, stated this on Thursday while speaking on a Radio Programme in Ibadan.
Speaking, Comrade Segun Oyewumi said many of their members have died of hunger while some are on sick bed as
a result of no money to purchase necessary drugs.
He added that the group has written series of letters to the concerned authorities as well as the state government but have no favourable response till now.
Comrade Oyewumi added that a notice of 14 days warning strike which ends today had already been given to the government.
According to him, “If government fails to pay our 15 months outstanding salaries, not ready to pay our salaries in full and make it regular, we are ready to embark on indefinite strike tomorrow.”
Responding, Oyo State Commissioner for Education, Hon Olowofela appealed to the group to exercise more patience till next Tuesday as consultations and meetings are on.
He pointed out that the government inability to pay was due to the economic situation of the country.
