Read: A Show Of Weakness (Motivational)
By Thomas Opeyemi John
Growing up, I’ve erroneously believed that doing everything we feel like doing at any and every time we feel like doing it(especially when angry) is absolute show of strength…
I’ve always thought that being able to give outright external expressions of what springs from our inside is the perfect way to prove ourselves right as regards some things…
This is definitely because I’ve seen people(parents) scream at their children; uncles and aunts, yell at their nephews/nieces; Superiors blast their juniors and mates, blasting themselves all in the name of CORRECTION…
I kept witnessing this mode as exercised by some people on others and it formed a belief for me hence, I took a choice to believe that: The absolute and best way to make someone do your bidding fast and accurately is via A SCORNFUL LOOK and A FURIOUS SHOUT…
But unfortunately, I got to discover later that this is a big ERROR…
It’s infact, a great blunder for you to think that shouting at someone or making excessively bold faces will make that junior of yours do what you want perfectly…
You see, research has proven that a high percentage of people when compelled to do things via scorn and contemptuous talks, do it the wrong way and eventually destroy things later…
Dear reader, I want you to know that it’s not best for you to scream when you feel like; it’s wrong for you to slap that person only because he’s/she’s younger…
It’s not a show of superiority or strength; infact, it’s an ULTIMATE show of YOUR WEAKNESS…
Your weakness is made manifest when you can’t manage your emotions in times of anger…
I found this truth and I’ve not yelled in a long while(and I have more younger friends)…
Don’t offer your child/younger sibling/nephew/mate the option of searching for an escape route from you(because they will if you continue being hostile)…
You can always make them smile even as you lovingly show them the right thing to do…
Place your urge to yell under your feet and come with a softer approach…
(As prescribed by Dale Carnegie…)
It’s not easy but when it eventually becomes part of you, you’d love yourself and people will love you more(TRUST ME).
Hope I didn’t get on your nerves?
