Ondo Rep Member Decried Dearth On Schools Infrastructures, Calls For State Of Emergency

Member, representing Akoko South-East /South West Federal constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Kolawole Babatunde has decried the dearth of infrastructures in the various school in Ondo State, especially in Akokoland where students are learning in terrible environments.
In view of this, Babatunde however urged the state governor, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu to declare state of emergency on schools infrastructures in the state as a matter of urgency, especially in Akoko communities.
The lawmaker gave the disclosure at the weekend while speaking with Journalists in Akungba Akoko where he distributed mobile science kits worth millions of naira to Secondary Schools in Akoko South-East /South West Federal constituency.
According to him, ” its very important to declare state of emergency on the schools as it is the bedrock upon which plans are builts in a progressive society.
He expressed his commitment to ensuring that science and technological based courses are promoted and encouraged.
The lawmaker said Ondo state can produce the next innovators like in Russia, China, USA and other developed countries through science and technology.
Babatunde who described as worrisome the dilapidated structures in the schools and absence of laboratories and equipment in Akoko and called on stakeholders within and outside the state to join hands with him to fix the decaying infrastructures in Schools in the Federal constituency.
His words, “I did promised my people that am going to do everything in my God’s given power to promote education in my constituency
“I took time to go round some of the schools, and I discovered that the structures there are dilapidated. Some of them don’t even have a laboratory, talkless of having the necessary equipment that is needed in the laboratories
“I realized that I need to intervene, and what I simply did was to partner with UBEC and we secured the mobile kits which is being distributed today
“I have this zeal to see how we can improve on science and technological education. Russia , USA, China and others developed countries are where they are today, because they have been able to develop in Science and Technological based
“I don’t see why my constituency can not follow suit, I don’t see why Ondo State can not follow suit and in general, I don’t see why Nigeria can not follow suit . And if we must start this, we must start at this elementary stage
“Even though, our duty is to make law, but aside, I still see it as my duty to see how I can turn this same gesture to infrastructural development
“The schools are bad, and most of our students are studying under a very terrible atmosphere and environment
“I think what we can do is to see how we can partner with relevance agencies to rehabilitate, even if we can’t construct new ones, we can make funds available for these schools to renovate
“There’s need for us to declare state of emergency on our schools infrastructures. It is very important because it is the basis on which we can build any plan or any progressive community”.
He however said Akoko needs the support of private and corporate organizations including individuals who are passionate about education to help put school structures in good shape.
