Hundreds of worshipers who stormed Ajegunle Baptist Church, Agbowo Ibadan on sunday to usher in a new month and pray for divine protection had no access to the Church auditorium which was under lock and key following the crisis that has polarised the Church
An army of congregation which arrived the Church for the first service were kept outside as the church was met closed and some elders stood outside watching who would dare open it.
Security operatives as well as police detectives kept surveillance in order to avert any breach of of Peace.
Many of the worshippers who arrived from 7.40 for English service returned home in frustration.
One of the Elders who spoke with CityMirrorNews Correspondent on condition of anonymity said ‘there is an issue between the Concerned Elders of the Church and the Assembly Pastor,Rev.E.O.Oyekan who is expected to have left the church over serious allegations.
He presented a pamphlet titled”financial misapplication without embezzlement'” a case study of Ajegunle Baptist Church, Agbowo Ibadan crisis'”,which he disclosed; has been sent to the ,Baptist convention, the highest ruling body of the church.
The book was authored by four concerned members of the branch Church namely Mr.G.A.Odekunle,Dn.T.A.Ojo,Mr.
AM.Okunade ,Mr.T.T.A.Adewuyi a n
d copied the President Ibadan Baptist Conference ,the Moderator, ChampionAssociation, Dr.E.O.Oyekan, and others.
They alleged Rev. Oyekan of many wrong doings bordering on corruption stressing that the only way out of the conflict was for him to leave theY Church adding “the Church for manry years now has lost her position of honour in the Baptist family through untimely and inappropriate payment of dues to the Association ,conference and the convention”
The Concerned members further contended that like any community, where both the right and wrong would have their followership,”Rev.E.A.Oyekan s activities have caused serious disunity amongst members of Ajegunle Baptist Church
In his defence, Rev.Oyekan declared that he was ready to puncture all the allegations levelled against him adding that the press should approach the Baptist Convention for any clarification. His position was contained in his letters addressed to the President of the Convention.
Findings revealed that the Men’s Missionary Union of the Church which just joined the protest against the Reverend maintained that the only solution was the exit of the Cleric from the Church
Meanwhile ,the top hierarchy of the Church was reported to have stepped into the conflict as the crisis has become an embarrassment as well as a stain on the Church.
