BREAKING : Petrol Laden Tanker Falls in Osogbo, Residents Scoop Fuel
By Olabode Abolaji
A fuel laden tanker heading towards Ilesa in Osun State suddenly fell on the Oke-Ayepe end of the Osogbo/Ilesa expressway in Osogbo on Monday morning.
The 33,000 litres laden tanker was said to have disembarked from the bad portion of the road as a result of its deplorable state.
An eyewitness told CityMirrorNews that the driver lost control when he tried to pave way for an oncoming vehicle coming from the Owode end of the expressway.
According to him, after the vehicle managed to pass, the tanker driver heading towards the Ilesa end stumbled on the bad portion which led to the accident.
Another eyewitness told this reporter that the accident occurred due to the recklessness of the driver who was admiring a woman at the other end of the road.
She said “The driver caused the accident, he was admiring another person’s wife from the vehicle. The woman told him to focus on the wheels which he refused and that was why he lost control of the steering.”
Residents of the area immediately trooped to the scene to scoop fuel from the 33,000 liters of premium motor spirit otherwise known as Petrol.
Defying advice from the security agencies, the residents were seen carrying kegs, jerry cans as well as buckets to get free petrol.
As at the time of filing in this report, members of the Disaster Management Unit of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, The Nigeria Police and the State Fire Service are on ground to forestall any further havoc or breach of peace in the area.
There is also some bit of concern for the people of the area as the environment is polluted with the petrol odour with drainages leading to Ita-Olokan, Oke Ayepe down to Oja Oba area of Osogbo entertaining remnants of the petrol drops.
However, no life was lost in the incident.
