Army Staff College Commandant commends Osun govt On Security, Youth Empowerment
Commander Abiodun Ogunmola, of the Staff and Students of Armed Forces Command and Staff college, Jaji, Kaduna, has commended Osun State government on its efforts on security and youth empowerment.
Ogunmola who led a team of the command on study tour of the State, expressed satisfaction in the measure put in place by the state government to reduce crime.
The theme of the programme organised by the Ministry of Empowerment and Youth Engagement tagged “National Security and Youth Empowerment.
Speaking at the press conference, rounding off the tour, the state Commissioner for Empowerment and Youth Engagement, Mrs. Mofolake Adegboyega, insisted that security of a nation is non negotiable for any government.
She opined that unemployment can be a form of threats when the youths are not engaged, saying “youth empowerment can be likened to safeguarding the future in the present time.
According to her “dealing with national security, the root cause must be tackle so as to find a lasting solution to the problem with minimal use of force on the people so as not to make the populace lose interest in the government.
“The importance of empowering youths has no bounds as they are agile and able working force of any nation. A nation that empowers their youths have a lot to gain presently in terms of reducing crime, Unrest, thuggery, drug abuse and all other vices perpetrated by the youths.
“Empowering youth means engaging those who can pose threat to the peace and security of a nation internally and by doing this, making lives and properties safe in the country.
She commended Governor Rauf Aregbesola for engaging the youth by rolling out programmes like O’Yes among others, saying such programmes have helped to reduce crime in the state.
“Ogbeni Aregbesola led administration has been able to ensure security of the state through empowering and engaging the youths of the state. These steps have been able to reduce the security challenges of the atate since those that can cause unrest have been engaged.
Speaking, the Commissioner for Special Duties, Hon. Oguntola Mudashiru Toogun, who is also the Chairman, crisis management between herdsmen and farmers, disclosed that more than 5,000 cases have been settled between Fulani and farmers in the state.
According to him, the committee has provided 13 boreholes to various Fulani communities because of the fact that the government realised they need water.
He stated that the committee has propose d to the federal government to help states in creating ranches for Fulani herdsmen in various states.
“We have built many nomadic schools in various Fulani communities for easy access to education by Fulani’s children.
He said the government has taken steps to register all cattle so as to be able to identify owners with numb byers of cattle in the state.
