Ikoyi-Osun is not haven of cannabis sativa-Olukoyi
The Olukoyi of Ikoyi-Osun in Isokan-South Local Government Development Area of Osun State, Oba Yisau Bantale Otunla, Kodaolu 1, has stated that his domain is not an haven for drug plantation.
The traditional ruler stated this on Wednesday September 28, 2016 in a Press Statement issued and personally signed while reacting to a news report in a newspaper recently that the Drug and Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, Osun State Command, destroyed about 21 hectares of cannabis saliva at Onikete farm settlement.
According to Oba Otunla, the anti-drug agency could not destroy such a large quality of drugs and spare the farms on which it was cultivated. “This is anthetical to logic and tenets of their work.
The farm settlement according to Oba Otunla, “does not belong to any community in Isokan-South Local Government Development Area of the State, rather, it belongs to the state government. Therefore, for anybody to have allegedly gone to plant cannabis sativa on such large expanse of land is amounting to criminal trespass which called for a thorough investigation by the state government.
As a traditional monarch, that is leading all the monarchs in the council area, “I can vouch for the integrity of all the monarchs and Chiefs that we would never have anything to do with drugs talk less of protecting the cartel that plants and sells cannabis sativa.
“The entire people of Ikoyi-Osun and its environs are not only law abiding individually and collectively, they would not descend so low to be involved in shady deals that is counter to the peace and harmony of their communities through drugs. In fact, they are symbol of communal peace, culture and harmony”.
According to the Community leader, “the publication of the existence of about 50 kilometers of cannabis sativa cultivation at Onikete farm settlement is only a muse that calculated attempt to cause disaffection among the rulers and people of the area.
The Olukoyi hereby called on the security agencies to unravel the sources and promoters of these negative and nefarious stories to curb further damage to our integrity as a people.
“I also call on the innocent and peaceful people in our communities to ignore the damaging stories and go about their normal activities as majority are subsistence farmers”, Olukoyi added.
“There is no tension in our community; all is well, cool and calm”, Olukoyi added.
