Benue state governor, Samuel Ortom, has revealed that some people wanted him to go to other countries to worship idols in order  to become governor but he rejected the offer because he had entered into a pact with Jesus Christ.

Ortom who made the disclosure while addressing the congregation on the occasion of a thanksgiving service held in honor of himself and the deputy governor, Engr Samuel Abounu, at the Norcross Memorial Methodist Cathedral, Otukpo, said some marabouts also offered to pray for him but he rejected the offer.

He said after he had rejected what Satan told him to do, he decided that he would rely on God for the realization of his ambition.

He said since he gave his life to Jesus Christ in 1979, his life has not remained the same and explained that the same Jesus Christ who made him to hold very important positions in the past made him to be governor.

The governor said his nongovernmental organization has been able to save a lot of lives through assistance to those with problems of snake bite and some prevalent diseases at St Theresa’s and Rahama Hospitals, all in Makurdi.

While recalling that the Methodist Church and other Churches were instrumental to his becoming governor, Governor Ortom said when a gang of armed robbers attacked him seven years ago with seven AK 47 rifles and 600 ammunition, he pursued them and Christ arrested them for him with the ring leader handed over to the police.

He said the deputy governor; Engr Benson Abounu has been loyal to him and maintained that what binds them together is sacrifice.

Ortom said he has confidence in Engr Abounu who gives him elderly advice and that he, Ortom, often delegates authority to Abounu because of high level trust.

Earlier, the deputy governor, Engr Abounu, had told the congregation that God has given him a governor who is his father.

Abounu said Ortom gives him freedom to operate freely and added that he would continue to be happy working with a man of God.

The deputy governor said the good relationship between him and the governor has permeated the other strata with his wife and Dr (Mrs) Eunice Ortom working together and asked the people to give thanks to God on behalf of himself and  Governor Ortom

The thanksgiving service was attended by the Minister of Agriculture, Chief Audu Ogbe, Dr (Mrs) Eunice Ortom, Justice Mary Abounu, members of the State Executive Council, members of the House of Assembly and the Judiciary, permanent secretaries and other top government functionaries.
