Church Ordains Ex-NUJ Chair as Bishop

A former Chairman of Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, in Osun state, Oluwaseun Adeoye has been ordained as a bishop of Sufficient Grace and Truth Ministry, Okinni in Egbedore Local Government Area of the State.

Bishop Adeoye, who was a former Correspondent of Guardian Newspaper, was elected chairman of Osun Council of NUJ in the year 2006, succeeding Prince Ayoade Adedayo and exited office in 2009.

The event which was climaxed by his 50th birthday celebration also served as a reunion party for old friends in the pen profession and many veteran news-hounds from the state and beyond.

The incumbent Osun Council chairman, Comrade Abiodun Olalere led NUJ delegation that has one-time secretary of the union, Rev. Sumbo Abioye, some members of the present state executive, and former ones, to the event.

At the well attended ceremony held inside the ministry’s auditorium, the leader of the College of Bishops that performed the ordination rites, Bishop Ayo Ojewumi, performed the symbolic raising of Adeoye to the Bishop’s throne amidst thunderous cheers.

In his words of exhortations, Bishop Ojewumi urged Adeoye to be above board in leading his church, bearing in mind some stringent conditions attached to his present office.

Responding after being ordained, Bishop Adeoye promised to rededicate self to raising more candidates for heaven through gospel.

Dignitaries in attendance at the event include; former SSG, Alhaji Fatai Akinbade, former HoS, Elder Segun Akinwusi, former NUJ VP, B Zone, Prince Ayoade Adedayo, Osun PDP chairman, Alhaji Gani OlaOluwa, immediate past commissioner for information and strategy in Osun state, Mr. Sunday Akere, Director of Publicity of Osun PDP, Prince Diran Odeyemi.

Others include; former chairman, NUJ OSBC chapel, Mr. Bamidele Salam, Editor, Saturday Tribune, Mr. Lasisi Olagunju, a media aide to former Osun state governor, Mr. Kayode Oladeji, chairman of Federated Chapel of Osun NUJ, Pastor Sam Segun Progress, Osun Correspondent of Leadership newspaper, Pastor Joshua Dada and state Correspondent of Alaroye Newspaper, Mrs Florence Babasola, among others.
