Osun NUT Chair Speaks on Salary, Govt Accountability
The Chairman of Nigeria Union of Teachers(NUT) in Osun, Mr Wakeel Amuda on Tuesday April 26, 2016 said the union was putting mechanism in place to ensure accountability in the state.
Amuda said this in an interview with CityMirrorNews in Osogbo, saying the welfare of his members remained paramount, hence the need to ensure judicious usage of the state resources.
He explained that the present economic recession in Nigeria, which affected the monthly allocations accruable to the states required vigilance and prudence in spending.
The NUT chairman said teachers in line with the sensitivity and importance of their job should be motivated at all times.
He however debunked the statement credited to the Nigeria Labour Congress(NLC) Chairman in the state, Mr Jacob Adekomi claiming that the government was not owing workers in Osun.
Amuda opined that Adekomi was misquoted by the statement he was alleged to have made on Channels Television.
He said that position was in conflict with the agreement labour reached with the governor recently.
On the forth-coming Labour Day, Amuda said the pattern of celebration will be subjected to the mood of the workers in the state, insisting that the day could be celebrated in low key or better boycotted.
Amuda therefore enjoined governments at all levels to selflessly contribute to the development of the society by creating enlightened environment through informed and well trained teachers
