Court Fixes May 23 for Osun NUJ Election Crisis Suit
The National Industrial Court of Nigeria has fixed May 23 to hear the suit filed by some members of the Nigerian Union of Journalists, Osun state Council on the annulment of the council’s election by the National secretariat of the NUJ.
A Motion on Notice dated April 22 and duly signed by the registrar of the court indicated that the case would come for mention before the court at Ibadan on May 23.
Counsel to the plaintiffs, Mr Alfred Adegoke has also filed and Affidavit of Urgency before the court, praying for speeding trial of the matter.
The affidavit stated that the court needed to grant speedy trial of the case to forestall further injustice on the NUJ matter.
It made reference to the last National Executive Council meeting of the NUJ (first respondent) held on April 20, where the plaintiffs were suspended on the matter and a fresh election was also ordered in the Osun NUJ council, despite being served with the processes of the court.
The claimants then prayed the court to quickly hear the matter urgently by fixing a date for the hearing of the Motion Ex-Parte already filed in the matter, which the court eventually granted.
They argued that unless the court hear the matter with speedy trial, the defendants were poised to continue with their conducts earlier complained against before the court in spite of the pending legal action in which they were adequately aware.
