The Governor of Osun state, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, has commended the Vigilante Group of Nigeria, VGN, on their role in the war against Boko Haram insurgency.

He gave the commendation while speaking at the capacity building parade of the South West Vigilante Group Nigeria at Osogbo city stadium, Osun state capital.

Aregbesola who was represented by the Director Security office of the Governor, Mr Abdul Taofik Komolafe, noted that the effort of VGN in the last few years has helped to reduce crime in the country.

“Let me use the opportunity afforded by this ceremony to commend the Vigilante Group of Nigeria once again in its role of checking Boko Haram insurgency in the North-East and crimes in all communities in Nigeria,” he added.

However, the group has renewed its vow to combat the deadly Boko Haram insurgents and rescue all the Chibok Girls if the Federal Government give necessary support.

The Commandant General of VGN, Alhaji Usman Muhammad, said the group has demonstrated its capabilities with the rescue of the first Chibok girl, Amina Alli, from the Sambisa forest.

He however urged the federal government to fast-track the passage of the bill before the National Assembly, saying such would encourage the group to work harder.

“It is clear now that the federal government know what we are doing in terms of security in this country. The rescue of the first Chibok girl by our group has attested to that.

“So, we are calling on the federal government to fast-track the bill to enact the VGN,” he stated.

Muhammed however, advised members of group to be loyal to the constituents authority, security agents and cooperate with all the stakeholders in the community.
