The crisis rocking Obafemi Awolowo University Ile-Ife, over the appointment of new Vice Chancellor to succeed the outgoing VC, Professor Bamitale Omole took a new dimension on Thursday, June 23, has the workers expressed their wish for the death of Professor Omole.

The workers carried an empty coffin they portrayed as the supposed casket carrying the corpse of the Omole around the OAU campus with solidarity songs.
CityMirrorNews learnt that Omole is expected to complete his five-year single term tomorrow Friday June 24.
The workers under the aegis of Non-Academic Staff Union and Senior Staff Association of Nigeria Universities, Obafemi Awolowo University branch, organised the coffin as part of the protest to mark the exit of Omole.
The casket-carrying protesters paraded the university campus with the casket, chorusing anti-oppression songs.
Appearing in white attires, the protesters stated that their choice of colour was to show that they were not mourning but rejoicing the exit of Omole.
Chairman of SSANU-OAU, Comrade Ademola Oketunde, appealed to President Muhammed Buhari to intervene in the crisis rocking the institution for peace to reign.
Oketunde also alleged that injustice in the university needed to be investigated by the Federal Government.
He said: said: “We are full of joy that after being in bondage over the past five-year, Omole is going. We have to celebrate his exit and pray no to have a VC like him again.
“We have lost confidence in both the University management and even the Governing Council. We call on President Muhammed Buhari to intervene by appointing an acting VC.
“The FG should set up an investigative panel that is not biased and also extend the war against corruption ‎to OAU.”
He, however, faulted the decision of the University management to shut the institution indefinitely, saying, “Shutting down the university shows that the school management is guilty of our allegations. It shows that they have done a wrong thing.”
On his part, Chairman of ‎of NASU OAU, Comrade Wole Odewunmi, insisted that the union would not dialogue on matters relating to the appointment of a new VC.
When asked if the union was ready for dialogue, he said, “Dialogue on a crook way of appointing a new VC? No, we wont.
“‎The appointment of Salami is not accepted by my union. We want the university authority to follow due process and not bring in someone through the back doors. The FG should come in right now and appoint an acting VC for OAU in other for peace to reign.”
It would be recalled that members of the Staff Unions had embarked on continuous protest and strike action since June 6.
They noted that the protest and strike action were to enable the university authorities accede to their demands.
Among the demands are cancellation of the appointment of the newly appointed Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Ayobami Salami; payment of earned allowances and probing of the outgoing VC of the OAU, Prof. Bamitale Omole.
