Police Arraign 5 over N2.25 million Theft in Osogbo
For allegedly stealing a sum of N2.25 million, five persons were on Tuesday arraigned before an Osogbo Magistrates Court.
The accused persons were: Musa Amusan (48), Salawu Waheed (45), Hassan Oladipo (67), Fasilat Waheed, (45) and Sali Liasu, (45).
According to the charge sheet, the suspects stole the money by promising to sell a parcel of land to one Mr Bensala Bunyamiu at Ofatedo which they refused to.
The suspects allegedly threatened to kill Bunyamiu when he demanded for his money after they failed to sell the land to him.
Police prosecutor, Inspector Olu Abodurin said the accused persons allegedly committed the offense on December 13, 2012 at about 12:00pm, at Ofatedo area, Osogbo.
Abodurin maintained that the allegation against the accused persons contravened Sections 516, 419, 86 (1)(2) and 390(9) of the Criminal Code Cap 34 Vol.11laws of Osun, 2003.
However, the suspects entered a not guilty plea to the three-court charge of threat to life, stealing and conspiracy.
Defence counsel, Mr Lekan Olayiwola, applied for the bail of the accused persons, maintaining that the allegation against them was bailable.
Olayiwola argued that the accused persons remained innocent until contrary is proved in a court of law, promising that they would not jump bail if granted.
The Magistrate, Mr Olusola Aluko, granted bail to the accused persons in the sum of N250,000 and two sureties each.
He then adjourned the case till January 23, 2017 for hearing.
