Governor Mimiko’s Aide, Idowu Oyewole, Shot Dead
The Chief Security Officer (CSO) of the Convoy of Governor Olusegun Mimiko of Ondo State, Mr Idowu Oyewole, a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) was in the early hours of today shot dead by suspected armed robbers.
Oyewole, 45 and a father of three was shot dead in his house along Akure/Owo road in the state capital after a three armed gang attacked him.
The incident has thrown residents, police authority and family members into mourning as the late officer was described as easy going.
Narrating the incident to reporters in his residence in Akure, the State capital, his son, Dare said a neighbour came to their house around 7.30 pm when his father was eating and told him that armed robbers had entered their house.
Dare said his father took his service pistol and followed the neighbour’s son to his house in order to dislodge the suspected hoodlums.
However, he said the armed robbers on noticing his father coming exchanged gunshot with him.
The Police Public Relation Officer, Mr Femi Joseph who confirmed the killing of the officer attached to the Mobile Unit of the Force said investigation has commenced on the incident.
Joseph described late Oyewole as disciplined and hard working officer. His words “we deserve your condolences. He was a discipline officer. Our eyes are heavy.”
