Aregbesola plans to pay workers’ salary to ease EFCC’s pressure, PDP alleges.

Osun state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, on Wednesday May 18,2016 said it has been informed of plans by Governor Rauf Aregbesola to hurriedly pay two months salary to workers in order to stem the rising tension over a anti-graft’s body investigation into the state’s finances.

The party in a statement issued in Osogbo by its director of media, publicity and research, Prince Diran Odeyemi, said paying workers when “operatives of Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, are on enquiries about the state’s finances regarding alleged diversion of LG funds indicates that Aregbesola had deliberately refuse to pay workers all the while.
“Why waiting until EFCC’s commences investigation into diversion of local government funds by Aregbesola before making arrangement to pay them?” Odeyemi queried.
He continued: “It suggest someone is trying to free some of the public funds held all in a bid to ease the pressure the EFCC invitation of human rights group that uncovered the fraud to shed light on its petition is piling on him”.
He alleged that the state accountant general had been instructed to begin processing workers’ February salary, adding that Governor Aregbesola, who had been away in Saudi Arabia had to cut short his trip and return to the state over the issue.
Commending the perseverance of workers, Odeyemi urged the anti graft body to speedily work on the petitions before it and safe people, especially workers further agony.
“Recovering huge Osun’s money presently in the private pockets will lift the state out of the quagmire it has been plunged by few individuals in positions of authority”, Odeyemi concluded.
