APC Uses Propaganda to win Elections – Gani Adams
By Abdulrofiu Agboola
The National Coordinator of the Oodua People’s Congress (OPC) Otunba Gani Adams, has said that All Progress Congress (APC), emerged victorious in the 2015 presidential election with the use of ‘garbage propaganda’.
Otunba Adams stated this in Osogbo on Thursday during the 2016 Leadership Retreat organized by the OPC in collaboration with Osun State Coordinating Council, OPC, as part of the activities marking this year Osun Osogbo festival.
The OPC Coordinator who bemoaned the hardship which the present economic downturn has placed on many Nigerians said they should put blame on the people who voted for APC.
He further explained that he had known from the onset the kind of turbulent situation Nigeria would go through if APC and Buhari are voted.
Otunba Adams who noted that the ruling APC had embarked on campaign of calumny and garbage propaganda against former President Goodluck Jonathan in order to damage his reputation, said majority of people who voted for change have started regretting their action.
According to him, “APC has nothing to offer the people of this country; I had known that for long. They only succeeded in wrestling power from the People Democratic Party and the former president Goodluck Jonathan during 2015 presidential election by the use of garbage propaganda and campaign of calumny, which they know better.”
“Recently some people came to me and started lamenting bitterly about the current economic hardship and I told them to stop complaining, I said they have gotten what they demanded for. We know how much we were buying a bag of rice before, now, we are buying a bag of rice at N18, 000 or 19, 000.
“I know why I said people should think very well before endorsing and choosing Buhari as their favourite candidate during that period and there is nothing I will say that would not come to pass. So people should blame themselves no matter the hardship.”
He, however, attributed series of criminal incidents in every part of the country to lack of the good leadership at the helms of affairs.
Commenting on the allegations recently making the round by some former state Coordinators of the group that he (Otunba Adams) collected N9billion from former president Jonathan during the last general elections; the OPC National Coordinator said it was a blatant lie.
Otunba Adams further explained that the leaders of the group were only awarded pipeline protection contract in a sum of N1.9billion and nothing more, saying they have not collected the money from the federal government.
The OPC boss said he would have been named among the looters of Nigerian funds if he had collected money from the ex-President Jonathan to help him garner votes from the South West in the 2015 presidential election.
He said there was no way he could collect such huge amount of money without being counted among the suspected money looters who are being currently investigated by the EFCC.
Otunba Adams who noted that the allegations was the handiwork of some former state coordinators who were being dismissed from the congress for acts bordering on indiscipline, anti congress activities and outright corruption said there was nothing anybody could do to bring him down as he is divinely guided and protected.
He said what he knew was that President Goodluck Jonathan gave them a contract to protect pipeline and in that pipeline contract, the analysis is that Nigeria was losing huge amount of money year to vandals.
Commenting on the efforts of OPC so far in ensuring peaceful coexistence among the people of the country, Otunba Adams said there is no local security outfit that can compete with them in terms of security services.
He stressed the need for members of the congress to remain united and eschew any acts capable of tarnishing the image of the congress, adding that only recognized local security outfit is OPC and all other securities were only created and funding in order to weaken OPC.
The OPC boss accused some Yoruba elders and political leaders of sponsoring campaign of calumny against the congress, saying some of these political gladiators remained hell-bent in their bid to bring OPC down.
He explained that some of these political leaders had instructed their people in government not to deal with or empower the OPC, saying ‘while some of the so called political leaders were plotting to destroy the OPC by denying it of government patronage, former president Jonathan gave us adequate support by awarding the pipeline protection contract”.
“If not for my persistence, some Yoruba elders and some political leaders would have spoilt the organization”, he added.
While charging members of the congress to remain focused and determined, Otunba Adams advised them not to betray the trust of the organization, just as he urged them to be disciplined, spiritual and morally amplified
