-Reconciliation Must Start From Fresh Congress-Bayo Faforijin
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Osun State has begun move to reconcile aggrieved members and settle all the crises that ensued during the ward, local and state congresses of the party.
It would be recalled that the congresses had divided the party into two camps; one led by a chairmanship candidate Prince Bayo Faforiji who is believed to be the favourite candidate of Senator Iyiola Omisore and the other camp led by Hon Soji Adagunodo, who is now the party chairman.
CityMirrorNews learnt that the reconciliation move which was initiated by the PDP chairman, Adagunodo started few days ago with meetings with elders and stakeholders in the party.
Adagunodo, who spoke with CityMirrorNews on Thursday, confirmed the information, saying that the party, under his leadership, commenced the peace move last week to reconcile all the aggrieved members and interest groups in the party.
According to Adagunodo, the state executives of the party had met with elders and stakeholders of the party in the state and enlisted their services to steer the reconciliation move.
He said: “The PDP in Osun state initiated the reconciliation move. There is no faction in Osun PDP, we must get that right. What we have is (aggrieved) group. We are however, making move to reconcile the aggrieved members and group.
“We have not really started the reconciliation, but we have been meeting with elders and stakeholders of the party to fashion out a way to restore peace and unity in the party. We were to meet last Sunday but we could not meet for some reasons.
“The other group has also been contacted on the peace move. Senator Omisore has been contacted and I think he is willing to accept the reconciliation move. We have met with elders like Alhaji Suaib Oyedokun; Senator Olu Alabi, Chief Ebenezer Babatope, Chief Omilani and baba Ogunrinade. They are all involved in the peace move.
“We are going to set up seven committees to reconcile aggrieved members, restructure and reposition the party. We are also setting up senatorial positions but we have not filled the positions because we want to take care of the interest of the aggrieved group.”
When contacted on phone, Dr Bayo Faforiji, who has declared himself factional chairman of the PDP in Osun state, also confirmed the reconciliation move, saying that some elders of the party have talked to him on the matter.
But Faforiji said there would not be any reconciliation until the two camps accept to hold fresh congress in the state.
Faforiji said: “I am aware of the reconciliation move, and some elders have talked to me on it. But my term of settlement is that PDP have not held any congress in Osun and for any reconciliation to hold, we must accept to hold a fresh congress.
“If we truly we want genuine reconciliation, we must accept the fact that there was no PDP congress in Osun state. So, we must hold a fresh congress. That is my term of reconciliation.”
