Niger Governor Warns Against Rejection of Corps Members
By Saka Bolaji, Minna
The Niger state Governor, Alhaji Abubakar Sani Bello has warned that henceforth any head of Agencies and parastatals who reject corps members posted to his agency or parastatals will be sack.
The Governor who gave the warning in Minna on Wednesday during the closing ceremony of the 2016 Batch ‘A’ orientation course said that the warning became necessary following the widespread of complaints of abstract rejection of corps members by some ministries, agencies and parastatals in the state.
The Governor who was represented by the Commissioner for youths and sports development, Alhaji Mamman Musa Bosso pointed out that his administration will not tolerate the habit where corps members would be subjected to ill treatment because they want to serve their father land.
“There is widespread complaints of abstract rejection of corp members, this is not acceptable and all stakeholders should be weary of this. My administration will not tolerate this because outright rejection of corp members will not promote the noble ideals of the NYSC scheme”, he said.
The Governor therefore reminded the corps members that “there is reward for hard work and excellent in service, those of you that will excel in your national assignment will not only be rewarded in monetary terms but stand the chance of securing jobs upon the completion of your service year”.
Earlier the state coordinator of NYSC Mrs. Bolade Loto, appealed to the state government for the timely completion of the permanent orientation camp, saying that the appeal become necessary in view of the hardship being faced by the corps members during orientation camp.
According to her, each time there was an orientation exercise, the NYSC will have to embark on some repairs and make some temporary arrangement with heavy financial implications which would not be so if there is a permanent site.
Loto while commending the unrelenting efforts of the state government towards the welfare of corps members posted to the state, urged the government to come to the aids of the scheme so as to have its permanent orientation camp, saying that having a permanent orientation camp in Niger state is long overdue.
