Ikirun Indigenes, APC Kick As Imam Launches Attack On Akinrun
By AbdulRofiu Agboola
Indigenes of Ikirun, headquarters of Ifelodun Local Government of Osun State have risen in defence of Akinrun, Oba Abdulrauf Olayiwola Olawale over the alleged declaration of war on by an Islamic cleric, Alhaji Mojeed-Nuru Adeyemi.
Adeyemi who is the Chief Imam, Lameco Central Mosque, Ikirun, had allegedly rained curse and hauled abuses words on the traditional ruler during a Jumat service held in the mosque last Friday, July 8, 2016.
Imam Adeyemi was said to have been infuriated by the Akinrun’s staunch support for the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) in the state.
Adeyemi’s utterances are generating aggressive reactions from indigenes of Ikirun who hold the traditional ruler in high esteem.
An indigene of Ikirun, Alfa Jamiu Adeagbo described the action of the Imam as barbaric and uncivilized, adding that such action was unbecoming of a Muslim cleric.
According to Adeagbo, a well informed, tutored and Allah’s fearing Imam would not turn Jumat sermon to political affairs, not to talk of going to the extent of abusing, cursing and declaring war on a his monarch who is a frontline traditional ruler in the state.
Another indigene of the community, Mr Rasheed Iwaloye, condemned Adeyemi’s action, calling on well meaning sons and daughter of Ikirun to caution him and make him to apologize to Akinrun.
Iwaloye said only a person that wants to incur the wrath of Allah and traditional institution would declare war on a monarch and even curse him.
The two Ikirun indigenes spoke with CityMirrorNews on telephone, on Wednesday, July 13, 2016.
Similarly, the Chairman of the APC in Ifelodun Local Government, Alhaji Saka Adesina condemned in strong terms, the alleged verbal attack on the Akirun by the muslim cleric.
Adesina who spoke to journalists at the Oke Afo Ikirun APC Secretariat said the attack was uncalled for and irresponsible of the Imam.
The Ifelodun APC chairman noted that it is uncultured for any true Yoruba son and a Muslim cleric to launch verbal attack on the referred royal institution.
According to him, it is unheard of that somebody will use the religious platform as a launch-pad to attack a monarch, especially one who has become respected among the citizens within and beyond Ikirun.
He noted that all the religions recommended full respect s for the traditional institutions and even said they should be prayed for to ensure their success.
Adesina called on security agents to make sure that they take action on Adeyemi’s behavior, so as to serve as deterrent to other ones who may want to tread such inglorious paths in the future.
The APC chieftain said his call was important because the cleric in question got emboldened to embark on the present ‘insolence’ against Akinrun because he had gotten away with a similar tongue-lashing of Gov Rauf Aregbesola in 2014 when he made it a weekly duty to launch tirades on him simply because he was supporting an opposition party.
”I want to urge the fading, docile and ever cheating disgruntled APC members in Ifelodun who are using Imam Adeyemi to make their case to the necessary quarters, if they have any grievances, instead of engaging a cleric to embarrass and harass the Akirun who has nothing to do with their misfortune..
”If any APC has any grievance about their situation in the party in Ifelodun, he or she should approach the appropriate authority in the party and seek redress and should leave Akinrun out of it.
“Akinrun Olawale is a referred monarch whose preoccupation since coming on throne has been how to make his domain progress immensely. APC members who kept cheating others to which they are rebelled against should face the consequences of their wicked and irresponsible actions”, he submitted.
