An Osun state based group, Civil Society Coalition for the Emancipation of Osun State, CSCEOS, and the state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, have blamed Governor Rauf Aregbesola for the poor performance of students in the West Africa Examination Council, WAEC.
The PDP in a statement issued by its spokesperson, Diran Odeyemi, and made available to CityMirrorNews in Osogbo on Tuesday, urged Aregbesola to immediately re-evaluation all policies and programmes he introduced in the education sector, if he intends to arrest the downward slide in WAEC rating.
The party stated that the position of Osun in the recently released result of 2016 WAEC, which placed the state in 29th position, was occasioned by the failure of the Governor to pay workers’ salary.
PDP acknowledged Aregbesola’s investment in education sector, saying all the efforts has come to naught with the massive failure recorded by most public school students’ in the state in this year’s WAEC result.
“Structures are being erected and noise is reaching heaven because of this, is 29th position among 36 plus FCT states a good advert for all the razzmatazz over learning tablet “opon imo” and other educational policies introduced by Aregbesola? Definitely no!
Meanwhile, the CSCEOS in a statement signed by its Chairman, Comrade Adeniyi, Alimi Sulaiman, advised Governor Aregbesola to resign from office with immediate effect following the poor performance of students in the 2016 May/June WAEC.

According to the group, the mass failure of students in the WAEC result was an outcome of bad policies of the present administration on education. They alleged that the governor has destroyed the educational system of the state beyond redemption.

“It means, all the billions of naira Aregbesola said it spent on education was a ruse and that the said system of education of 4-5-3 his government embarked upon was illogical. It is clear that all the
acclaimed efforts of the Mr. Aregbesola in the educational sector of the state were embarked upon to enrich himself and his family members with their political associates.

“The governor whose ego was unequal to others should cover his face in shame with this result and it is clear that Osun people need competent and capable hand to take the state out of present doldrums being put her to by Aregbesola’s government.

“We wondered how many future generations of Osun people that Aregbesola and his government has destroyed by this woeful performance of our dear innocent children”, the statement added.
