Ghanian Election: A Milestone in African Political Journey-Expert
An expert in Peace and Conflict Resolution, Mr Olaniyi Ajibola has described the just concluded Ghanian election as a milestone in African political journey.
Ajibola, who is the Executive Director of Advocacy for Advancement of Peace and Harmony in African Initiative (ADAPHAI) made this remarks on Saturday while addressing press men on the outcome of Ghanian election.
The Peace Advocate stressed that the recent electoral exercise in some of the countries in Africa continued to give credence to the institutionalisation of matured political culture and new democratic philosophy in Africa.
He explained that the political consciousness among the African electorate has risen to an enviable stage, adding that Africa now have many sophisticated electorate that know how to vote and protect their vote without violence.
Ajibola noted that the entrenchment of credible polls, with free and fair political atmosphere would contribute immensely to political stability and economic advancement on the continent.
According to him” nothing guarantee stability like credible polls, where the pattern of votes reflects in the results of the election, and popular will takes political prominence naturally”.
He congratulated the President-elect, Nana Akufor -Addo for his perseverance and strong determination, while commending President Mahama for his democratic maturity and display of sportsmanship.
“The recent turn of political events on the continent of Africa is very encouraging and inspiring, it portends more good things to come in the region, and a confirmation of new political culture.
” I believe with this feat, the era of rancorous elections is gone forever in Africa, African electorate have become more sophisticated and matured.
“It is my believe that the president-elect would reciprocate the trust Ghanaians repose in him by giving him their mandates and facilitate quick development in the country.
” It is also important for Akufor-Addo to reconcile all interests and hit the ground running with dynamic leadership style, the one that gives every Ghanian a sense of belongings, ” Ajibola asserted.
