Panic in Ilorin as Bloody Cult Clashes Leave 6 Dead

No fewer than six persons were killed in renewed bloody clashes between rival cult groups in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital.
The first violent clashes occurred last Monday night in Gaa-Akanbi area of Ilorin metropolis when suspected rival cult members allegedly murdered a boy in his 20s.
According to sources, the fracas spread to Ipata Market and Kankatu areas of the State capital on Tuesday, where two persons were reportedly murdered by another suspected cultists.
The two incidents were said to have happened between the hours of 4:00pm and 9:00pm on Tuesday.
An 18 years old boy was also said to have been killed at Kankat area at a place close to Amule bridge.
An impeccable source told CityMirrorNews that Policemen from the State Police command evacuated the corpse of teenager and deposited it in an undisclosed hospital morgue in the town.
It was further gathered that another victim in his 30s was allegedly hacked down on Wednesday by people suspected to be cultists in Odoota area of the metropolis.
The suspected cultists were said to have struck between 10:00am and 11:00am on Wednesday.
It was also gathered that the deceased was preparing to go to his place of work when he was attacked by his assailants.
The incessant cult clashes within the week may not be unconnected with the killing of a popular car wash operator in Ilorin metropolis, late Bayo Ajia late last year.
The clashes were said to be a reprisal attacks on the suspected cultists who murdered Ajia in cold blood.
Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the State command, DSP Ajayi Okasanmi, said he was yet to get information regarding the other incidents in Ilorin metropolis apart from Gaa Akanbi incident..
He promised to get update from the Divisional Police Officers of the affected areas for confirmation.
His words: “I can confirm to you that Gaa-Akanbi incident was as a result of rival cult clashes”.
