Police Arrest Armed Robbers Months After Operation Through Stolen Phones
The police operatives attached to the Zonal Intervention Squad, Zone 2 command, have arrested some suspected armed robbers/burglars several months after their robbery operations through the use of some of the mobile phones stolen from the victims of their operations in Lagos and Ogun states.
According to a press release signed by Mr Muyiwa Adejobi, a Superintended of Police who is the Zone 2 Command, Onikan, Lagos Police Public Relations Officers, the armed robbery suspects had been terrorising residents of more than 15 communities in Ogun and Lagos States.
One of the victims of the armed robbers, who was robbed of his phone reported to the police that his stolen phone was being used by the robbers, according to the press release.
The armed robbers were placed under surveillance by the Zonal Intervention Squad before they were eventually arrested on September 25, 2016.
“The police operatives, who swung into action and worked with the police ICT experts and through detailed investigation arrested one Lekan Akinola,whose arrest led to the arrest of other members of the robbery syndicate including MUTIU OYEKAN,m,AKEEM SANUSI,m,OLAHUSI RASAQ,m,KAZEEM OLADIPUPO,m,WAHEED AMUSAN,m, and four others at their hideouts in Lagos and Ogun states.
“The suspects have confessed to have carried out robbery operations at Abata,Ifo,Ewekoro,Mowe,Adigeb in Abeokuta,Iju Ota,Alakuko and Agege in Lagos state etc.
“Items recovered from them include refrigerators,laptops,plasma TV Sets,Generators,wears,electrical appliances and their operational vehicle Mazda Bus with Reg.No. Lagos BDG 602 XM. And some of the victims of their various robbery operations have identifiers the suspects and their stolen items recovered by the police.
“The Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 2 Command Lagos,AIG Abdulmajid Ali,has commended the police operatives for their commitment and detailed investigation that led to the arrest of the suspects. He has therefore directed that the suspects be charged to court without delay while the fleeing members of the gang be apprehended immediately.
“The AIG then reiterated his zeal and readiness to get the zone rid of criminals and hoodlums who may want to truncate the security networking put in place in Lagos and Ogun states”, the statement stated.
