ARG Advocates Peace over LAUTECH Crisis, Urges Aregbesola, Ajimobi on Common Ground

The Afenifere Renewal Group (ARG) has sued for unity, peace and tranquility over the lingering crisis enveloped the joint ownership of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, LAUTECH, Ogbomoso.

The Group charged the two owner state- Osun and Oyo to swing into action and avert the degeneration of possible violence precipitated by the ongoing strike in the institution.

It would be recalled that the institution which is jointly owned by Oyo and Osun state governments has been battling with pocket of controversial imbroglio culminated from poor funding.

The Group which expressed worry over the reported violent attack on some officials of the university by some unknown persons recently gave the advocacy in a statement through its Publicity Secretary, Kunle Famoriyo.

“We believe that such barbaric and insensate act has no root in our society and should not be allowed. We therefore call for calm and understanding among all the stakeholders of the university.

“The significant financial challenges facing LAUTECH does not and must not translate to enmity between the indigenes of Oyo and Osun States as this is against the spirit of peace and unity that many of our leaders are labouring to promote.

“ARG calls on the governors of the two states, Sen. Abiola Ajimobi and Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, to quickly come to a round-table on this matter and resolve all agitations in the overall interest of the larger community that the university serves”, the statement read.

The Group further charged the two governors on the need to live up to constitutional and political obligations towards the provision of functional and quality education.

Famoriyo said, “Both governors must quickly bear their leadership acumen and employ their political will and sagacity to proffer lasting solution to incessant crisis and interruption in the institution.

“We also call on the traditional leaderships of Ogbomoso and Osogbo kingdoms to pave way for peace in view of sustaining the the aims and objectives of the founders of the said university.

“We therefore emphatically call on the revered stools of His Royal Majesty, Oba Oba Jimoh, the Ataoja of Osogbo and his Ogbomoso counterpart, Oba Oladunni Oyewumi Ajagungbade III to utilize their offices in prevailing and assisting in nipping this crisis in the bud.
