Ousted Guinean Leader Alpha Conde Refuses To Resign
More than a week after he was ousted from office, Guinea’s president Alpha Condé has not tendered a letter of resignation, as done by Malian ousted leader Boubacar Keita.
A report by Africa Insight said this was the finding of the fact-finding mission by ECOWAS.
But the paper added that the former leader is not in the best state of mind.
”Alpha Condé has at his disposal a bedroom, a living room and a bathroom, but has no access to his telephones or to the radio.
“The television, which he was able to watch for a while, has been taken away from him because, according to his guards
“He gets angry every time he sees Lieutenant Colonel Doumbouya on the screen and this affects his health“.’
He also claims that he did not want to run for a third term, but was forced to ‘by the women of Guinea’ who financed his campaign.
Meannwhile GuineeNews reported Wednesday that Conde and the leader of the junta, Colonel Mamady Doumbouya sleep under the same roof, in Conakry.
“Both left the headquarters of the Armed Forces located at the People’s Palace to settle in the annex wing of the Mohamed VI Palace (former Palace of Nations).
“One is in a large luxury apartment on the ground floor and the other is on the first floor in a similar apartment, with the same amenities.
“The representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations in West Africa in the Sahel, Chadian Mahamat Saleh Annadif, was surprised yesterday to find that he only had one staircase to walk for the audience with the two men”.
