Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris, on Tuesday pledged to reintroduce soft loans for primary and secondary school teachers across the state for houses, cars, and motorcycles.
The Governor made the pledge during the inauguration of 12,779 sets of furniture for primary and secondary schools in the state.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the furniture sets are for both teachers and students.
Speaking at the official inauguration ceremony in Birnin Kebbi, the governor said, “The government of Kebbi will continue to look into the plights of our teachers.
“In-Sha-Allah, by this year, 2026, we will come up with a package that teachers of primary and post-primary schools will benefit from.
“We shall soon come up with a soft loan package for teachers, this will cover: car loan, motorcycle loan and house loan, among others.
“This is with a view to giving our teachers a sense of belonging.”
The governor assured that the era of treating classroom teachers as a second class citizens was over.
Speaking on the furniture, Idris said the gesture was part of the state government’s obligation to ensure that both the students and teachers have adequate furniture in their classrooms.
He pledged the unwavering commitment of his administration to continue to provide a conducive atmosphere for both teaching and learning.
Apart from the construction and renovation of various primary and post-primary schools across Kebbi, the governor said the gesture was part of an urgent effort to ensure that classrooms and offices were well equipped.
“I want to assure the good people of Kebbi that this is just the beginning; we will continue to provide this kind of furniture for both teachers and students,” he stated.
The governor directed that the furniture be shared 50-50 between the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education and the Universal Basic Education.
Earlier, the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Halima Bande, expressed happiness for what she described as a holistic commitment to education.
