-As VC Calls For More Strategic Partnerships

The University of Ilesa witnessed a significant milestone with the official commissioning of a newly constructed public toilet facility donated by the Omotayo Adegboye Foundation, a gesture widely applauded as a meaningful contribution to improving sanitation and welfare within the institution.

The event, which according to a statement signed by Babatunde Fanawopo, the Senior Assistant Registrar, Corporate Service and Information Unit, University of Ilesa, attracted members of the university community and well-wishers, underscored the growing role of philanthropic partnerships in strengthening infrastructure development in Nigerian universities.

Speaking during the commissioning ceremony, the Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilesa, Prof. Taiwo Olufemi Asaolu, expressed profound appreciation to the Omotayo Adegboye Foundation for what he described as a timely and impactful intervention.

He noted that the facility would greatly enhance hygiene and convenience across the campus, particularly for students, staff, and visitors who rely on accessible sanitation services within the university environment.

Prof. Asaolu commended the visionary individuals and organisations that have continued to support the institution’s mission through various forms of assistance, including infrastructure development, academic awards, and the enrichment of the University Library’s collections.

According to him, such interventions play a crucial role in strengthening the university’s academic and social ecosystem while improving the overall experience of the campus community.

The Vice Chancellor also used the opportunity to invite more stakeholders to join the noble cause of supporting the University of Ilesa.

He disclosed that the University Advancement Centre would soon be reaching out to potential partners, philanthropists, and organisations to explore mutually beneficial partnerships and collaborations aimed at accelerating the university’s growth and development.

While acknowledging the invaluable role of government in sustaining public institutions, Prof. Asaolu applauded the generosity and unwavering commitment of the Osun State Government to the university.

He specifically praised the state governor for the continuous support extended to the institution since its establishment.

However, he emphasised that government support alone cannot meet the ever-growing needs of a modern university. According to him, strategic partnerships with philanthropists, corporate organisations, and foundations such as the Omotayo Adegboye Foundation remain essential for bridging infrastructural and developmental gaps within the institution.

Prof. Asaolu stressed that hygiene within the university environment is of paramount importance, particularly in a fast-growing institution like the University of Ilesa.

With a vibrant academic community comprising over 13,000 students, more than a thousand members of staff, and numerous other stakeholders, he noted that adequate public facilities are indispensable for maintaining health standards and ensuring dignity for all.

He explained that well-maintained toilet facilities are fundamental to promoting public health and improving the quality of life within the campus environment.

According to him, the newly commissioned facility represents not only a practical solution to sanitation needs but also a symbol of collective responsibility toward building a healthier academic community.

On behalf of the Governing Council, Management, staff, and students of the University of Ilesa, Prof. Asaolu extended heartfelt appreciation to the Omotayo Adegboye Foundation for the donation.

He noted that the generous gesture underscores the Foundation’s strong commitment to enhancing the well-being and dignity of members of the university community and society at large.

The Vice Chancellor assured the donors that the facility would be utilised responsibly and maintained with utmost care.

He pledged that the university would implement rigorous cleaning schedules and promote a culture of responsible usage among students and staff, ensuring the sustainability of the facility.

Prof. Asaolu further expressed the university’s eagerness to deepen collaboration with the Foundation and explore additional opportunities for partnership as the institution continues its journey toward achieving greater heights of excellence.
