33-Year-Old Arrested For Allegedly Writing FCTA Promotion Exam For Father

A 33-year-old man, Monsuru Musa, has been arrested for allegedly impersonating his father during a promotion examination organised for employees of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA).

Monsuru was reportedly apprehended on Wednesday, the third day of the examination, while allegedly sitting for the test on behalf of his father, Musa Mohammed, an employee of the FCT Fire Service.

The examination was organised by the FCT Civil Service Commission and held at the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN).

According to Lere Olayinka, an aide to the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, Monsuru was arrested by security personnel deployed to monitor the examination following the minister’s directive to ensure strict compliance with examination rules.

During interrogation, Monsuru reportedly admitted that he was not the registered candidate and had been sent by his father to sit for the examination because of the latter’s health condition.

He initially told interrogators that his father was between 67 and 68 years old. However, when questioned separately, Mohammed reportedly said he would turn 60 in February 2027, raising questions about the discrepancy in the information provided.

Mohammed, however, confirmed that Monsuru was his biological son and admitted that he had asked him to take the examination on his behalf because of his health.

When asked whether he had instructed his son to sit for the examination because of his health, Mohammed reportedly replied, “Yes.”

Monsuru also confirmed during the interrogation that his father had directed him to write the examination on his behalf.

Mohammed told the interrogators that he completed primary school in 1977 and secondary school in 1982. He added that he travelled to Portugal in 1991 and commenced employment in 2007.

He further disclosed that he was expected to retire in February, although reports said he appeared unable to clearly state his exact age during the questioning.

The interrogation was reportedly recorded on video, with both father and son acknowledging that Monsuru had participated in the examination on Mohammed’s behalf.

The two men were subsequently handed over to the police for further investigation after making statements to operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS).

The police are expected to investigate the alleged examination malpractice and determine the appropriate action against the father and son.

The incident comes amid heightened monitoring of the FCTA promotion examinations as authorities intensify efforts to curb impersonation and other forms of examination malpractice.
