Mentally Unstable Man Kills NSCDC Officer In Oba Ile
A routine effort to restrain a mentally unstable youth turned tragic on Thursday when an officer of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps was stabbed to death at Oke-Ala in Oba-Ile, Akure North Local Government Area of Ondo State.
Residents told journalists that trouble began after the suspect’s mother invited two NSCDC personnel to help subdue her son, who had reportedly battled mental instability for years and had become increasingly disruptive.
Witnesses said the officers were attempting to chain the young man to prevent further unrest when he suddenly resisted and turned violent.
In the ensuing struggle, the suspect, it was gathered, allegedly disarmed one of the operatives, seized his knife and attacked him repeatedly.
“The boy suddenly became violent. He struggled with the officer, took his knife and stabbed him several times,” an eyewitness recounted.
“It was shocking because the officer was even armed, yet he could not prevent the attack.”
Confirming the incident, the spokesman for the NSCDC in Ondo State, DSC Daniel Aidamenbor, said the officers had been trying to restrain the suspect with the intention of taking him to a psychiatric facility for medical care when the tragedy occurred.
He noted that the attack happened in the course of an operation aimed at protecting both the suspect and residents of the community.
