Police Arrest Cultist Planning Assault On Ondo Polytechnic Election
The Ondo State Police Command has arrested a suspected cultist, Muhammed Taofeeq, over an alleged plot to violently disrupt the upcoming Students’ Union Government (SUG) election at the Federal Polytechnic, Ile-Oluji.
Parading the suspect before journalists, the police described Taofeeq, 28, as a notorious cult member who had long been on their wanted list for crimes ranging from murder to armed assault and other cult-related violence in Ondo town and nearby communities.
According to the police, he was apprehended on July 15, 2025, at about 2:00 p.m. following credible intelligence that led officers to his hideout in Ile-Oluji.
Preliminary investigations revealed that Taofeeq had concluded plans to launch coordinated attacks before, during, and after the student election with the aim of causing chaos, influencing the outcome, and asserting his cult group’s dominance on campus.
The police said the suspect is currently in custody and has been providing useful information to help track down other members of his syndicate who remain at large.
“The Command is working to dismantle the cult network and ensure those behind the planned assault are brought to justice,” the police stated.
Authorities also assured the public that security has been intensified across campuses and public areas in the state to prevent any breach of peace during the student polls.
They urged students and residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to law enforcement agencies promptly.
