My Husband Beats Me To Stupor Many Times – Wife Cries Out

A Customary Court in Kaduna has dissolved the 6-year marriage between a 37-year-old businesswoman, Hannah, and her husband, Caleb Williams, after she accused him of constant assault and battery to her life.

Delivering the judgment, Judge Dauda John stated that the marriage had irretrievably broken down and there was no reason for the couple to remain married.

“No one should be forced to stay in a toxic marriage,” he said. “The wife deserves peace and emotional relief.”

The judge ruled that the marriage should be dissolved with immediate effect, and custody of their 5-year-old son was awarded to Hannah. He also ordered Caleb to return the N50,000 dowry.

Hannah, the petitioner, had tearfully recounted her suffering, telling the court that her husband’s abuse had made her life unbearable. She revealed that since the loss of their second child three years ago, Caleb’s behavior had worsened.

“I can no longer bear the emotional and physical abuse,” she said. “Whenever I speak to him about his behavior, he lashes out, threatening to either let me leave alive or dead.”

She described multiple occasions when Caleb had beaten her to the point of unconsciousness, with neighbors intervening to stop the violence.

“I fear I may not survive the next time,” she said. “He has made it clear that I either leave alive or dead.”

Hannah pleaded for the court to end the marriage, saying that she could not live in constant fear of her husband. “I’m living in a prison, not a marriage,” she said.

“My mental health and the well-being of my child are more important than this toxic union.”

Caleb, however, denied all the allegations. He claimed that his wife was stubborn and refused to listen to anyone.

He also stated that he was willing to dissolve the marriage, claiming that Hannah had rejected all his attempts at reconciliation.
