Police Uncover Gun Factory Operated By Father, Sons In Akwa Ibom
The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has dismantled a gun manufacturing factory allegedly operated by a father and his sons, responsible for fabricating and distributing firearms.
The State Commissioner of Police, CP Joseph O. Eribo, disclosed this on Monday during a media briefing at the Command Headquarters in Ikot Akpan Abia, Uyo, where he detailed the Command’s recent successes in tackling criminal activities.
Eribo revealed that the factory’s discovery followed actionable intelligence, prompting a swift operation by police officers. While one suspect, identified as David Nse Emmanuel, was apprehended at the scene, other members of the family, including the alleged mastermind, Akpan Nse Emmanuel, managed to escape.
Recovered from the factory were an assortment of weapons, including seven newly manufactured single-barrel guns, five double-barrel guns, a special steel double-trigger pistol, a broken single-barrel gun, a trigger-handle walking stick knife, and materials used for gun fabrication, such as cut iron pipes.
Quoting the Commissioner: “Based on credible information received by the Command, operatives raided a gun-making factory where firearms of various types were fabricated and sold to criminals.
“During the operation, one David Nse Emmanuel was arrested, while his father, Akpan Nse Emmanuel, and his brothers, who jointly run the business, fled.”
Eribo further assured the public that efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspects and dismantle criminal networks in the state.
