Police Arrest Welder For Helping Fleeing Suspect Remove Handcuffs
The Lagos State Police Command said it had arrested a welder, Aliu Tijani, who helped a suspected cultist to cut off his handcuffs after escaping from police custody.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed on Sunday that the suspected cultist, Wasiu Opeyemi, was earlier arrested in 2021, but escaped from police custody.
He said the suspect was rearrested by men of the command last week.
The PPRO, in a tweet via @BenHundeyin, stated, “Suspected cultist, Wasiu Opeyemi, escaped from police custody in August 2021 in handcuffs.
“Last week, he was re-arrested alongside Aliu Tijani, the welder who cut off the handcuffs when he escaped the first time.”
He added that the two suspects had both been arraigned and were currently in remand.
