Osun NSCDC Arrests Online Scammer

The Nigeria Security and civil Defence Corps Osun State Command has arrested a suspected online scammer, Bright Joseph, for allegedly defrauding one Halima Ashifa under pretence of selling eggs to her.

Joseph, a 24-year old who resides at zone 6 Apete area, owode Ede in osun state committed was arrested on Wednesday January, 26, 2022 at his residence in owode Ede.

While parading the suspect at the state headquarters of the corps, the public Relations officer of the corps DSC Adigun Daniel on behalf of the state Commandant Emmanuel Ocheja disclosed that the suspect, Bright Joseph, a holder of ND certificate from Auchi Polytechnic advertised the sales of eggs under the guise of operating a farm called Choice Farms located in Ogbogbo,Ijebu Ode, Ogun state on his Instagram page.

He added that one Halima Ashifa,F aged 37 who resides at Sanngo Otta,Ogun State signified interest in the supply and established contact with the suspect,she eventually made a cash transfer of a total sum of fifty-five thousand Naira (#55,000) only in two instalments of seven thousand,five hundred naira(#7500) and forty seven thousand,five hundred naira (47,500) only for the eggs on 21 and 25 of January,2022 respectively.

The money was deposited in a GTB account which the suspect claimed was the account belonging to his company secretary whereas the account number actually belongs to a point of sales(POS) Operator at owode Ede, osun State.

The public Relations officer of the corps stated that the suspect has committed offence tantamount to obtaining money under false pretence and is culpable of the offence and had violated Section 1(1)a(c) of the advanced Fee Fraud and other related offences act 2006 ( LFN) by fraudulently obtaining the money knowing very well that he had no eggs for sales neither did he had any poultry farm.

The suspect had volunteered confessional statements to confirm his culpability.

He will be charged to court in due course.
