Man,36, Remanded For Unlawful Possession Of Arms In Osun

A 36-year-old man, Yusuf Hammed has been arraigned before an Osun State Magistrate Court sitting in Osogbo over alleged unlawful possession of firearms.
The defendant was dragged to court on Tuesday on a three count-charge bordering on conspiracy, and unlawful possession of firearm and cartridge.
Police Prosecutor, Inspector Fatoba Temitope told the court that the defendant conspired to possess one locally cut-to-size single barrel and two live cartridges which he could not give satisfactory account.
He alleged that the defendant committed the offence on the 9th of August 2022, In front of House of Assembly complex Abere Area Osogbo Area, Osun State.
According to the prosecution, the defendants committed the alleged crimes in contravention of Section 516 of the Criminal Code Cap 34 Vol. Il Laws of Osun State of Nigeria 2002 and contrary to section 4 and punishable under section 27(1) b (1) of the Firearms Act Cap f.28 Vol. II Laws of Osun State of Nigeria 2004.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the three count-charge.
The presiding Magistrate, Olusegun Ayilara, ordered that the accused persons be remanded in Ilesa Correctional Centre and directed defence counsel, Tunbosun Oladipupo, to file a formal application for the bail of his client.
The case was subsequently adjourned to September 5 for mention.
