Woman, 31, Docked For Allegedly Forcing Her Maid To Eat Fetish Substances, Declaring Her Wanted On Facebook In Osun
The police in Osun State have dragged a 31-year-old woman, Adefisayo Adekunle before a Magistrate’s Court sitting in Osogbo for allegedly feeding her maid, Opeyemi Olatona with concoctions and declaring her wanted on social media.
Adekunle was docked on four counts of conspiracy, defamation, and endangering the life of her maid.
The police prosecutor, Inspector Olayiwola Rasaq, told the court that the defendant, with others at large, on August 19, 2021, at 8:40am around Ayekale, Osogbo, conspired to endanger Olatona’s life by forcing her to use a charm with the intent to injure her.
Rasaq added that the defendant, on August 26, exposed the housemaid to hatred and damaged her reputation by unlawfully sending her photograph on social media and declaring her wanted.
The defendant was alleged to have committed offences contrary to and punishable under sections 516A (1), 337, 375, and 219 of the Criminal Code Cap 31, Volume 11 Laws of Osun State of Nigeria 2002.
However, the defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges preferred against her.
In an oral application, the defence counsel, Muftau Adediran, urged the court to admit the defendant to bail in the most liberal terms.
Presiding Magistrate, Olusegun Ayilara, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N200, 000 with one surety in like sum.
He adjourned the matter to October 8 for mention.
Meanwhile, the housemaid, Opeyemi Olatona, had explained the circumstances that led to her decision to abscond from her boss’s residence weeks after resuming duty at the place.
Olatona, who resided with her boss in Osogbo, said that she decided to quit her job having discovered that her employer intended to hypnotize her with charm for ulterior reasons.
Olatona, mother-of-one, who reportedly met her mistress earlier this year in Ilesa, said that she started working as a maid at her residence in Osogbo following a mutual agreement between them.
“I met her in Ilesa while I was waiting for a vehicle to convey me to Osogbo. As I was standing beside the road, Madam Fisayo parked her vehicle and offered to give me a ride to Osogbo. While discussing in the car, I told her that I had no job, so she said that I could work with her as a house help.
I accepted.
“After some weeks, she started giving me some fetish substances to consume. I sensed that she might want to use me for ritual, so I parked my belongings out of her house without giving her any notification,” the victim said.
Olatona lamented that she was surprised when she discovered that her mistress had declared her wanted on social media with her picture displayed. She said that
“When a friend drew my attention to the Facebook post where I was declared wanted, I reported the matter to the police narrating the circumstances in which I left her house,” she narrated.
