Man, 27, Remanded For Allegedly Raping Teenage Girl In Osun

An Osun State Magistrate Court sitting in Osogbo, the state capital on Tuesday ordered the remand of one Niyi Oluwafemi for allegedly defiling a 17-year-old girl.
The Magistrate, presided over by Mrs Modupe Awodele said that the suspect be kept behind the bar due to the magnitude of the offence committed.
Police Prosecutor, ASP Idoko John had informed the court that the suspected rapist allegedly committed the offence on May 17,2020 at about 10:00am at Oke-Yidi area, Odeomu.
John further explained that the accused assaulted his victim by forcefully penetrated her without her consent.
According to him, the defendant did unlawfully have canal knowledge of one Abiodun Iyanu, a seventeen years old girl.
He said that the offence contravened Section 358 and 350 of the Criminal Code Cap 34 Vol. ll Law of Osun state 2002
But, the defendant pleaded not guilty to the allegations of rape and assault slammed against him.
Defence Counsel, Tunbosun Oladipupo applied for the bail of the accused person in the most liberal term.
Oladipupo who assured the court that reliable sureties would stand for the accused promised that he would not jump bail if granted.
He said the suspect was still presumed innocent until contrary is proved by a court of law.
However, the Prosecutor swiftly opposed the bail application moved by the Defence Counsel on the ground that the victim is in a critical condition adding that she was still receiving medical treatment in an hospital.
Handling down her ruling, Magistrate Awodele ordered the remand of Oluwafemi at police custody.
She, thereafter, transferred the case to Gbongan Magistrate Court.
The case was adjourned till June 8, 2020 for mention.
