18-Year-Old Boy Arraigned For Stealing Noodles, Sugar, Other Food Items In Osun

A 18- year-old Teenager, Alabi Oluwapelumi, was on Monday, arraigned before an Osun state magistrate’s court sitting in Osogbo, over alleged house breaking.

The defendant was alleged to have stolen one Holladia Yoghurt, one chivita Juice, one 3 crown, powder milk, Two Titus sardine, one refill Milo, one bottle of groundnut, two dangote sachet sugar, one geisha, one maliza perfume, Fifteen indomine and one ear phone all total valued N10,000

According to the police, the stolen food items belongs to one Obiyemi Demilade

He was arraigned on 2 count charges bothering on burglary and stealing

The prosecutor, Mr Abiodun Faboyinbo, told the court the defendant committed the offence on the 8th of December 2019 at about 12:22pm at No 25 Olatunbosun street Dada Estate Osogbo.

Abiodun said the Offence was contrary to and punishable under Section 411 of the Criminal Code Cap 34 Vol. I Laws Of Osun State Nigeria 2002

The defendant pleaded guilty to the two count charges

The defense counsel, OO Fagbewesa, pleaded with the court to mitigate his punishment for being a first time offender and pleaded to the court to temper judgement with Mercy.

Meanwhile, Magistrate Risikat Olayemi granted the boy bail in the sum of N5,000 with two sureties in the same amount.

The magistrate said that the sureties would be in close touch with the accused and ensure that he is of good behaviour for a period of over year.

Olayemi furthered ordered that Oluwapelumi be brought to court alongside his sureties in March till December, 2020 when the court would finally takes decision on whether to finally discharge the accused or sentence him if he doesn’t turn a new leave.

The case was adjourned till 30th of March, 2020 for the defendant and sureties to give feedback to the court on the teenager’s behaviour and character.

In a chat with the accused in the court premises, Oluwapelumi claimed that hunger led him to stealing the food items.
