Dealer Docked For Alleged N2.4m Diesel Theft
A 32-year-old oil dealer, Stephen Agede, who allegedly obtained 20,000 litres of diesel worth N2.4 million under false pretences, on Thursday appeared before an Igbosere Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.
The accused, whose address was not provided, is facing a three-count charge of conspiracy, stealing and fraud.
Agede, however, pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Sgt. Innocent Odugbo, earlier told the court that the accused conspired with some others at large to commit the offence on Feb. 2, 2016, at Lekki, Lagos.
Odugbo said that the accused obtained the diesel from Mr Wilson Okwuokei on the pretext that he would pay for it on delivery.
“The accused knew that the representation he made was false.
“The accused did not make the payment as he promised but converted the money for his own use,” Odugbo said.
The prosecutor said that the offences contravened Sections 285, 312 (1) and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
The Magistrate, Mrs F.O. Botoku, granted the accused bail in the sum of N500, 000 with two sureties in like sum.
She ordered that the sureties must show evidence of tax payment and have their addresses verified.
The magistrate adjourned the case until May 19 for mention.
