‘Over 1m Candidates Sitting For NECO’
The Registrar of the National Examinations Council, Prof. Dantani Wushishi, has said a total of 1,209,000 candidates are sitting the ongoing 2022 Senior School Certificate Examination.
In a statement on monitoring of the conduct of the examination in Lagos by Wushishi, the examination body noted the results would be released in the next 45 days after the last paper on August 12.
It noted that Wushishi visited Ilupeju Senior Grammar School and Agbayewa Memorial College also in Ilupeju among others.
“As you know, it is a process, as soon as the examination is concluded on August 12, we prepare for marking. We have an action plan for coordination and marking and that is why we are optimistic we will release the results 45 days after the last paper.
“We have been going round states across the country to monitor and see things for ourselves. We started from Lokoja in Kogi, and moved over to Ekiti and then to Akure in Ondo, Osogbo in Osun, Oyo, then to Abeokuta in Ogun and Lagos,’’ he said.
The statement added that the over N2b examination fees being owed by some state governments were slowing down its efforts in ensuring the smooth operations of the Council.
“We are using this opportunity to appeal with the five states that are yet to remit the examination fees of their candidates to help us and do the needful.’’
On the general conduct of this year’s exercise which commenced nationwide on June 27, Wushishi stated that so far, it had been encouraging adding that it had been devoid of negative incidents.
