Philanthropist, Oyekunle Calls For Regulation Of Lending Organizations In Nigeria
—As He Donates Materials Worth Millions Of Naira To Support Indigent Of Osun
A resident of Ikire in Irewole local Government of Osun State, Mr Ibrahim Bolarinwa Oyekunle has called on the Federal Government through the financial regulations agencies to save poor Nigerians from the high interest and conditions attached to the numerous lending organizations in the country
He made the call at Ikire, when he donated materials worth millions of naira to support some indigent members of the community.
The materials donated included motorcycle, generating sets, medical kits and some basic drugs for some health centers, as well as payment of JAMB registration fee for over 50 students, while about 40 women also benefited from cash donations to support their businesses.
Speaking at the ceremony held at Ayedaade Grammar School, Ikire, the donor, Mr Ibrahim Oyekunle pointed out that numerous questionable outlets spring up daily, providing quick and soft loans for the low earners with very stringent conditions.
Mr Oyekunle noted that many had had their properties illegally impounded and some publicly disgraced for failure to meet with the remittance of the loan.
” some of those affected went as far as committing suicide for fear of embarrassment that followed inability to meet up with remittance date of such loans, which could be as low as twenty thousand naira.
For Mr Oyekunle, ” it is imperative that government do the needful to address the ever increasing lenders everywhere as their incessant loan facility kills the low income earners rather than providing succour for their small businesses”.
He explained that his intervention had nothing to do with politics but a genuine desire to give back to the society.
Responding, some of the beneficiaries, Mr Jimoh Anthony and Obisanmi James appreciated the donour for the gesture which they described as the intervention they required to guarantee their source of livelihood.
Miss Muibat Dapo who was just discharged as a Tailoring apprentice said it would have been difficult for her if not impossible to acquire a sowing machine if the help had not come from the donour.
