Commuters Stranded As Ebonyi Govt Shuts Motor Parks

Some of the parks shut included those belonging to Peace Mass Transit, GUO Mass Transit, Romchi Mass Transit, Onitsha South Mass Transit and other transport companies.

The government, through the Ministry of Capital City Development, said it sealed off the mass transits because of the refusal of the transport companies to move to the general motor parks designated by the government.

Some of the commuters expressed concern about the action.

Mr. Christian Igwe, a commuter travelling to Abuja, said the decision had left commuters stranded.

The Commissioner for Capital City Development, Onyekachi Nwebonyi, said the government shut the parks following the refusal of the transport companies to move to the central park designated by the government for them.

He said the government wrote to the transport companies six months ago to relocate to the general park designated for them, but efforts to relocate them failed.

Nwebonyi said the intention of the government was to reclaim the original master plan of the capital city, adding that there was no going back on the relocation of the parks.
