NAWOJ B Zone To Hold Maiden Annual Conference To Address Plight Of Nigerian Girls

The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), B Zone (South West), has concluded plans to hold its maiden annual conference, in an effort to contribute more to national development.

The conference with the theme: “Insecurity Turning Girls into Endangered Specie”, is aimed at addressing the plight of Nigerian girls in the midst of security challenges.

Education, health and general welfare of girls are being threatened by incessant abductions and other security challenges in the country.

The conference is a deliberate effort on our part to emphasise the plight of Nigerian girls due to heightening insecurity, with a view to charting the way forward.

In the next 15 years, girls of today will become mothers.

How we handle them now will determine how they will be and their capability to contribute to national development.

The nation’s future may be impacted negatively by unprepared tomorrow’s mothers.

The conference will hold on Thursday, September 9, 2021 to commemorate the International Day to Protect Education Against Attack.

Venue is Radisson Blu Hotel, Ikeja, Lagos State.

Time is 10.a.m.

The conference is in line with the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 5 which seeks that women and girls everywhere must have equal rights and opportunities, and be able to live free of violence and discrimination.

One of the objectives of NAWOJ is to promote women and children’s rights and seek their welfare.

We bring their issues to the front burner with a view to seeking policy change in their favour.

NAWOJ is also committed to building/developing capacity of women journalists to enable them to contribute better to national development.

NAWOJ seeks partnership with relevant groups, organisations and individuals to support women and children to live a better life.

The conference is expected to draw a communique addressing insecurity and ways of empowering the vulnerable.

Participants at the conference were selected from non-governmental organisations that are at the forefront of women and girl-child advocacy, government officials, security personnel, traditional rulers, among others within South West Nigeria.

The Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Mr Johnson Kokumo, will deliver a keynote address at the occasion to be chaired by the immediate past Chairman of First Bank Plc., Mrs Ibukun Awosika.

Note:
NAWOJ will stick to the safety protocols as enunciated by the Task Force on COVID-19: social distancing, compulsory wearing of face masks, use of hand sanitizer and use of infrared thermometers.
