Composition of Your Government Lopsided, Senator Tells Niger State Governor

Senator representing Niger East Senatorial district in the National Assembly Senator David Umaru has criticised the composition of the government of Governor Abubakar Sani Bello of Niger state saying the state executive councils is lopsided.

Senator David Umaru also accused  the All Progressives Congress, (APC) government of violating the constitution of the country by not giving equal opportunities to all ethnic nationalities and religions in the state.

The federal lawmaker specifically said the four major positions in government, Deputy Governor, Secretary to the state government, Chief of Staff and Head of Service are all Muslims contrary to the provisions of the constitution.

Senator David Umaru made the remarks in Minna on Wednesday evening when he spoke at the first Christmas carol organized by the state government.

” The composition of your government is not representative of Christians,we must make it known that we must be fair to all, we cannot continue to pretend about this”.

Senator David Umaru also accused the government of not encouraging Christian children to learn the basics of their religion by refusing to allow Christian Religious Knowledge to be thought in public schools.

Speaking further the lawmaker said Christians in the state were being denied access justice since the area courts were replaced with the Sharia courts fourteen years ago.

He therefore asked the government go do the needful by giving fair treatment to members of all religions and ethnic nationality.

“As a government of change we must address these and other issues now bothering the people”.

Emir of Minna Dr Umar Farouq Bahago in  message to the event commended Christians in the area for living in peace with members of other religions.

Dr Bahago declared ” we want Minna emirate to continue to remain peaceful”.
