Goods Destroyed As Fire Razes Onitsha Factory

A night fire at a plastic factory in Onitsha, Anambra State destroyed goods worth millions of naira.
The factory, located along the Federal Road Safety Corps road in Onisha went up in flames around 5pm Friday, sources have said.
The fire, which started in the factory’s warehouse, was eventually put out by the joint effort of Federal and State Fire Services.
Confirming the incident, the Anambra State Police Command Spokesperson, Ikenga Tochukwu, said no life was lost.
“About 5:30pm, there was a fire outbreak in a factory that produces disposal cups and plates along Hero road by Onitsha head bridge,” he said.
“On receipt of the information, police operatives led by the PRO Harbour Divisional Headquarters rushed to the second, confirmed off the area to prevent looting by hoodlums who can take advantage of the situation.”
He added that the state fire service was contacted and they responded promptly.
“To this end, the commissioner of the police, Monday Bala Kuryas he ordered discrete investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident to unravel the cause of the fire and ascertain the level of damage,” he said.
