Youths Protest, Block Roads In Zamfara Over Schoolgirls’ Abduction
Angry protests have erupted in Jangebe community in the Talata Mafara Local Government Area of Zamfara State as youths blocked access roads to the community, burning tyres and preventing officials from gaining access.
Citymirrornews learnt that the youths were also resisting security operatives, government personnel and journalists trying to access the school.
“Angry residents are protesting. They have blocked access road to the community, burning tyres and resisting journalists,” a resident said.
Gunmen kidnapped more than 300 schoolgirls at the Government Girls Secondary School, Jangebe in the Talata Mafara Local Government Area earlier on Friday.
The gunmen, believed to be bandits, struck the school on Friday morning.
The gunmen were said to have arrived at the school around 1 am and loaded the girls in buses.
A resident in Kawaye village identified as Seidu Muhammadu who confirmed the development to newsmen said his daughters, Mansura and Sakina, were among those abducted.
“I’m on my way to Jangebe now to see the situation myself. I was told they invaded the school around 1am,” he said.
The Zamfara incident comes a week after gunmen struck the Government Secondary School in Kagara, Niger State, abducting 47 school pupils, teachers and workers, who have yet to be rescued as of Friday.
