Police Arraign Deaf,Mute Men For Kidnapping In Ekiti
Ekiti state police command on Monday arraigned two deaf and mute men before Ekiti state Magistrate court sitting in Ado-Ekiti the state capital for allegedly kidnapping 17-year-old girl who is also deaf and mute.
The accused persons Peter Obi 41, and Ego Njoku 35 whose addresses were not given pleaded not guilty to the allegations slammed against them.
Police prosecutor, Inspector Oriyomi Akinwale, told the court that the accused persons committed the offence on February 1, 2021 in Ado-Ekiti.
Akinwale alleged that the accused persons abducted a 17-year-old girl, who was also deaf-mute from Auchi, in Edo to Ekiti state to beg for alms.
He noted that the offence committed by the accused persons contravened Section 27 (2) (b) of Child Rights Law, Ekiti State, 2012.
He prayed the court for an adjournment to enable him to study the case file and present his witnesses.
Defence Counsel to the defendants, Mr Michael Olaleye, prayed the court to grant his clients bail in most liberal term.
Prisiding Magistrate, Mrs Adefunmike Anoma, granted the accused persons bail in the sum of N10,000 with one surety each in like sum.
She, thereafter,adjourned the case till March 22,2021 for hearing.
