Looting: IPU Condemns Looting In #EndSARS Protests’ Disguise
By Steve Oni, Ilorin
The Ibagun Progressive Union (IPU) in Ilorin East local government area of Kwara state, has condemned in strong terms the Friday looting of some government and private properties in Ilorin, the state capital.
In a statement by its chairman, Alhaji Kuranga Omomeji Morogun, IPU described looting and stealing under the disguise of #EndSARS protests as condemnable and unacceptable.
It called on the traditional rulers, the clerics and community leaders/elders in the state, especially in Ilorin to rise to the occasion by condemning stealing by the youth as a shortcut to amassing wealth and or get out of poverty.
The association urged residents to promptly report the smuggling of stolen property into their communities to the nearest police station in order to expose the hoodlums that carried out the dastardly act of looting of innocent people’s property and discourage a bandwagon effect on other youths.
The statement reads: “IPU and Ibagun / Okelele community is saddened by the spate of wanton destruction of people’s properties and stealing witnessed in Ilorin town on Friday. This is unacceptable. It would have Ilorin youths become scavengers, urchins, robbers and nincompoops? It is never in our character and surely Ilorin youths must have been infiltrated.
“Ibagun Progressive Union condemned in unmistakable terms the attack on businesses, homes and government institutions; this is barbaric, savagery, uncouth and very primitive. We enjoin our people to be at alert and watch for carted property into their houses and report immediately such to the police and appropriate authorities.
“We are not also unmindful of precision and alacrity with which Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq took the bull by the horn in stemming the unspeakable action of the youth! Normalcy is gradually returning to Ilorin town. IPU applauds the government’s proactive measures so far and we pray Allah to douse this avoidable tension in the state and the country at large.”
